 "Law barring clubs from acting against Tamil culture to be enacted: Jaya")
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today said that appropriate law will be passed during this session itself and the licence to those clubs acting against Tamil culture will be revoked.
The development comes on the back drop of denying entry to a Madras High Court Judge by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) Club since he was wearing dhoti. The Judge went to the club to attend a function, organised by one of the members. The TNCA Club July 11, denied entry to Justice D Hariparanthaman and two senior advocates for being clad in a dhoti. They went to the club at an invitation to attend a book release function.
The book "Legal Fraternity Embraced Me" was authored by former acting chief justice of Madras High Court Justice T S Arunachalam.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister condemned TNCA Club and said appropriate law will be enacted preventing clubs from acting against Tamil culture.
Speaking in the assembly, she said, the law will be passed during this session itself and the licence to those clubs acting against Tamil culture will be revoked.
Quoting TNCA Club’s bye-law on dress regulations Jayalalithaa said the rules bar persons wearing indecent dress and those attired in coloured Bermudas, lungis, cut banians/vests and hawai chappals. The act of TNCA Club in denying entry to those wearing dhoti is demeaning the Tamil culture and civilisation.
“It is a sartorial despotism,” said the Cheif Minister, who also took pulled its main rival DMK for not taking action earlier when similar complaints were made and raised in the assembly. She said a notice will be issued to the TNCA Club on the issue.
