R-Day celebrations: Multi-layer security cover in Delhi

A multi-layer security cover has been put in place ahead of Republic Day celebrations in the national capital to thwart any untoward incident, officials said.Police have stepped up anti-sabotage checks, verification drives and patrolling.Around 6,000 security personnel will be deployed and a total of 24 help desks will be set up in the New Delhi district for those who will attend the celebrations, the officials said.

Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will launch 'iNCOVACC', the world's first made-in-India nasal vaccine on Thursday, official sources said. According to the sources to ANI, Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech's Intranasal heterologous booster dose is likely to be available in the market by February first week. DGCA amends Civil Aviation Requirement

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has amended its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) for passengers who are unable to board due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights. The amendment will allow the passenger, who is downgraded involuntarily and is carried in a class lower than that for which the ticket is purchased, to be reimbursed by the airline as follows: For Domestic Sector: 75% of the cost of ticket including taxes. For International Sector: 30 per cent of the cost of ticket including taxes for flights of 1,500 km or less. 50 per cent of the cost of ticket including taxes for flights between 1,500km to 3,500km. 75 per cent of the cost of ticket including taxes for flights more than 3,500km, said DGCA.

Anil Antony's views on BBC documentary "immature," says Tharoor

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday rejected the views of Anil Antony, son of party colleague and former defence minister A K Antony, on a controversial BBC documentary on Gujarat riots and termed as "immature" his argument that it was an infringement into India's sovereignty.
 
Anil had tweeted on Tuesday that placing the views of the British broadcaster over Indian institutions would undermine the sovereignty of the nation. He has since resigned from all posts he was holding in the Congress party, citing "intolerant calls" and "abuses" over the matter.

Left-affiliated Students' Federation of India (SFI) Wednesday announced it will screen the controversial BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Jamia Millia Islamia campus at 6 pm.

The university administration, however, said no permission has been sought for the screening of the documentary and "we will not allow" it.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, Zakir Hussain, KM Birla and Sudha Murty are among 106 Padma Award recipients this year. The government announced the names on the eve of the 74th Republic Day.

In the wake of multiple untoward incidents on its flights, Air India has modified its in-flight alcohol service policy wherein cabin crew have beentold to tactfully refuse further serving of alcohol if needed. According to the revised policy, 'Alcoholic beverages must be served in an appropriate and safe manner. This also includes refusing to serve alcohol (further) to the guests." Air India said in a statement on Tuesday.
