No gender gap in administration of vaccines: Govt

There is no gender gap in administration of COVID-19 vaccines, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.
 
Also, as on January 31, 2022, 70 per cent of the total vaccine doses have been administered at COVID-19 vaccination centres located in rural areas, the minister said.
 
As on January 31, 2022, around 48.8 per cent of the total COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered to women which approximates to the estimated proportion of women in the country's population which is 48.5 per cent according to Census 2011, Pawar said in a written reply.
 
"Hence, there is no gender gap in administration of COVID-19 vaccines," she said.

Mumbai reports 846 covid cases, seven deaths

Mumbai on Friday reported 846 new coronavirus cases and seven deaths, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
 
The tally of infections in the city rose to 10,50,194 and death toll to 16,654. On the second day in a row, the city reported less than 1,000 COVID-19 cases. On Thursday, Mumbai had reported 827 new cases and seven fatalities.

The positivity rate (number of infections found per 100 tests), fell to 1.90 per cent from 2.29 per cent a day before. In the last 24 hours, 44,323 COVID-19 tests, nearly 8,000 more than the previous day, were carried out in the city, taking the tally of tests conducted so far to 1,54,67,411. With 1,297 patients recovering during the day, the tally of recoveries jumped to 10,23,589. The city's rate of recovery is 97 per cent. The period taken for the caseload to double improved to 662 days, while the growth rate of cases for the period between January 28 to February 3 was 0.10 per cent.

Maharashtra sees 13,840 new coronavirus cases in a day

Maharashtra on Friday recorded 13,840 fresh coronavirus cases, a drop of 1,412 from a day ago, and 81 fresh fatalities, while 27,891 more patients recovered from the infection, the health department said.
 
With these fresh additions, the state's COVID-19 tally reached 77,82,640, while the death toll increased to 1,42,940, the department said in a bulletin. On Thursday, the state had recorded 15,252 cases and 75 fatalities. No fresh infection of the Omicron variant was reported in the state, the health department added.

Covid cases stabilizing across country: MoS Health

As on January 31, the COVID-19 trajectory seems to be stabilizing and even declining in certain states and UTs, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.
 
The Union Health Ministry continues to closely monitor COVID-19 trajectory in the country, he said.
 
An upsurge of COVID cases in the country was observed by the end of December, 2021, which was primarily driven by the Omicron variant, Pawar said in a written reply. In April-May, 2021, a high number of cases were reported on a daily basis across the country. On May 7, 2021, 4,14,188 new COVID cases were reported in the country.

Covid: 14,950 new cases in Karnataka, 53 deaths

Karnataka on Friday registered a further decline in daily coronavirus infections, as the state reported 14,950 new cases and 53 fatalities, taking the tally to 38,75,724 and toll to 39,250.
 
The state on Thursday had reported 16,436 fresh infections.
 
There were 40,599 discharges today, taking the total number of recoveries to 37,13,343, a health bulletin said.
 
Of the new cases, 6,039 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 25,904 people being discharged and 15 virus-related deaths.

'People at top' want weak CM for Punjab who can dance to their tunes: Navjot Sidhu

In an apparent dig at the Congress top leadership, Punjab unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday said that the "people at the top" want a weak Chief Minister who can dance to their tunes.
 
This came as the Congress party is set to announce its chief ministerial face in Punjab on February 6.

Live news updates: The Haryana Government on Friday moved the Supreme Court challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court order granting an interim stay on a law providing 75 per cent reservation in private sector jobs for residents of the state.
The law provides 75 per cent reservation in the private sector to job seekers from the state and came into force from January 15 after being notified in November last year. It applies to jobs offering a maximum gross monthly salary or wages of Rs 30,000.

The government has decided to provide 'Z' category commando security to Asaduddin Owaisi after the Hyderabad MP alleged his car was shot at in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, PTI reported. Official sources told the news agency CRPF commandos will be deployed for Owaisi round-the-clock.

India reported 149,394 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. A total of 1,072 Covid deaths were reported overnight to take overall fatalities to 500,055.
