Assam logs 207 new COVID-19 cases, 2 fresh fatalities

Assam's COVID-19 tally rose to 6,05,847 on Thursday as 207 more people tested positive for the infection while two fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 5,938, a health bulletin said.
 
The positivity rate rose to 1.53 per cent from 0.85 per cent on Wednesday, it said.
 
Kamrup Metropolitan district registered the highest number of new cases at 101, followed by Jorhat (30), Nagaon (11), and Sonitpur (seven).
 
Two persons died of the infection in Kamrup Metropolitan district during the day.

COVID deaths cross 10,000-mark in Haryana after 174 fatalities found in audit

Haryana reported no fresh COVID-19 related death on Thursday, but the total fatality count in the state crossed the 10,000 mark after 174 fatalities were added to the state health department's daily bulletin after a death audit.
 
According to the health department's daily bulletin on Wednesday, the death toll was at 9,875.
 
However, another bulletin issued on Thursday showed the total death count at 10,049.
 
The outcome of 174 cases have been declared as COVID 19 death out of total under investigation positive cases by the State Death Audit Committee, according to the bulletin.

Delhi records 28 fresh Covid cases, no death in four days

The national capital on Thursday reported 28 fresh Covid cases, taking its tally to 14,39,311, as per the Delhi Health Department bulletin. However, no fatality has been reported in the city for the fourth day now.
 
The city's death toll stands at 25,089, and the death rate at 1.74 per cent. Delhi has recorded two deaths due to the infection in October so far.
 
The Covid infection rate in the national capital has declined to 0.05 per cent. The active cases tally in the city has also registerd a decline and stands at 337. With 29 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries are 14,13,885 so far, the health bulletin said.
 
A total of 99 Covid patients are being treated in home isolation at present.
 
With a 98.23 per cent of Covid recovery rate, the active Covid cases rate in Delhi stands at 0.023 per cent.

Term-1 board exams for Classes 10, 12 to be conducted offline; date-sheet on October 18: CBSE

The first-term board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 will be conducted offline in November-December and the date-sheet for the same will be announced on October 18, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said on Thursday.
 
The board said the exams will be objective-type and the duration of the tests will be 90 minutes. The exams will start from 11.30 am instead of 10.30 am in view of the winter season.
 
Bifurcating the academic session, holding two term-end exams and rationalising the syllabus were part of the special assessment scheme for Classes 10 and 12 board exams in 2021-22 announced by the CBSE in July in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
"After the conduct of the term-1 exams, the results in the form of the marks scored will be declared. No student will be placed in the pass, compartment and essential repeat categories after the first term. The final results will be announced after the first and the second-term examinations," CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said.

The countries that have agreed on mutual recognition with India include the UK, France, Germany, Nepal, Belarus, Lebanon, Armenia, Ukraine, Belgium, Hungary and Serbia, they said.

The Central Vista project will not only save money but will also bring better cohesion in administration and output, Union minister Jitendra Singh said, noting that thousands of crore of rupees is being paid as rent by various ministries for hired premises.

Inaugurating the new state-of-the-art building constructed at Technology Bhawan campus for the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) in New Delhi, Singh said "de-silosation" not only of work but also workplaces is needed for better and cost-effective outcomes.

Aryan is regular consumer of drugs, says NCB; court to pass order on bail on Oct 20

Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, was a regular consumer of drugs, the NCB on Thursday told a special NDPS court here while opposing his bail plea in a case of alleged seizure of banned drugs from a cruise ship.

Aryan (23), arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on October 3, will have to remain in jail for at least six more days as the court, after hearing arguments, posted the matter for orders on October 20.

Khan and two others -- Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha -- have sought bail from the court of V V Patil, special judge for cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Supply of coal by CIL to non-power sector suspended temporarily

The supply of coal by CIL to the non-power sector has been kept suspended temporarily amid electricity generating plants in the country grappling with coal shortages.

"Supplies to non-power sector plants have been kept suspended till further information," according to a recent letter of Coal India's arm South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) seen by PTI.

On being asked about the development, a CIL official said, "This is only a temporary prioritisation, in the interest of the nation, to tide over the low coal stock situation at the stressed power plants and scale up supplies to them."

Live news updates: Invesco said on Wednesday it facilitated talks between Reliance Industries and Zee Entertainment earlier this year on a possible tie-up, prompting the conglomerate to confirm it approached the TV network for a merger with help from the US investment firm. "We ... have never resorted to any hostile transactions," said Reuters. "We regret our being drawn into the dispute between Zee and Invesco," it said.

The country has more than 34 million cases in total and 451,435 people have died in the pandemic, said the ministry. Daily new coronavirus infections have been below 30,000 for 20 straight days.

 
Infosys revenue growth guidance has been raised by the company on Wednesday for the financial year 2021-22 to 16.5-17.5 per cent from the earlier 14-16 per cent. Beating Street expectations, Infosys reported a net profit of Rs 5,428 crore, up 11.7 per cent YoY and 4.3 per cent sequentially. Revenue for the quarter was up 20 per cent to Rs 29,602 crore.
