Being accepting and tolerant of others' opinions does not mean one should also accept hate speech, Supreme Court judge Justice D Y Chandrachud said here on Saturday.
In his convocation address at Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) here, he urged the graduating students to be guided by their "own conscience and equitable reason".

Centre asks 7 states with rising Covid cases to ensure effective compliance
Amid rising Covid cases on daily basis, the Centre on Saturday wrote to seven states reporting rising infections, asking them to ensure adequate testing, and promote Covid-appropriate behaviour.
In a letter to Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said: "Upcoming months are likely to witness mass gatherings in context of various festivities to be held in different parts of the country, leading to large number of individuals undertaking intra- and inter-state journey or congregating at same places."

Total Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in India crosses 2.06 billion
The cumulative Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 2.06 billion with over 2.4 million jabs administered on Saturday till 7 pm, the Union Health Ministry said.
The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late at night.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will on Sunday flag off Akasa Air's first commercial flight that will operate on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.
Akasa Air, which is backed by ace investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and aviation veterans Aditya Ghosh and Vinay Dube, got its air operator certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 7.

Unfortunate that CM Telangana chose not to participate in Governing Council meeting: NITI Aayog
Number of measures already in place to work closely with states. Last year, over 30 meetings held with CMs. Delegation also met with Telangana CM in Hyderabad last year. Recently, despite requests for a meeting, CM did not respond, said NITI Aayog, responding to Telangana CM KCR.
Over last 4 years, govt allocated Rs 3,982 core under Jal Jeevan Mission for State of Telangana. But state chose to draw only Rs 200 cr. In addition, Rs 1195 cr was released to Telangana under PMKSY-AIBP-CADWM during 2014-2015 to 2021-2022.
It's unfortunate that CM Telangana chose not to participate in Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog. Governing Council is a forum where highest political leadership deliberate on development-related issues & agree on appropriate solutions for national development, it added.
Strict action will be taken against those centres to ensure smooth conduct of CUET: NTA
Taking cognisance of inconvenience faced by students in some CUET centres, National Testing Agency reviewed entire situation on Friday.
"It was found that some centres failed to comply with laid-down protocols. Any incidence of non-compliance/ sabotage/ignorance will be viewed very seriously," said NTA on Saturday.
Strict action will be taken against those centres to ensure smooth conduct of examinations in future, it added.

Yamuna pollution: NGT imposes cost of Rs 100 cr on Noida authority, Rs 50 cr on DJB
The National Green Tribunal has imposed a cost of Rs 100 crore on the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority over its failure to control discharge of untreated sewer waste into drains, causing pollution in the Yamuna river.
A bench headed by National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel also imposed a cost of Rs 50 crore on the Delhi Jal Board.
The green panel noted that out of the 95 group housing societies in Noida, 56 have sewage treatment facility or partial treatment facility and untreated sewage directly goes into the drain.

IT dept carried out search in certain producers & financiers associated with the film Industry: CBDT
IT dept carried out search & seizure operations on Aug 2 at almost 40 premises located in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore & Vellore, in the cases of certain producers, distributors, & financiers associated with the film Industry, said Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Saturday, a media reported.
During the course of the search operations, several incriminating documents & digital evidence, relating to unaccounted cash transactions & investments have been seized. Secret & hidden premises have also been unearthed during the search, the official CBDT spokesperson told ANI.
So far, undisclosed income exceeding Rs 200 crore has been detected. Undisclosed cash of Rs 26 crore and unaccounted gold jewellery exceeding Rs 3 crore have been seized. Further investigations are in progress, the spokesperson added.
