PM Modi to embark on 2-day visit to southern states today, to launch developmennt projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to four southern states starting today to launch various developmental projects worth over Rs 25,000 crore.

PM Modi will visit Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on November 11 and 12. According to the Prime Minister's Office, on November 11, at around 9:45 am, the Prime Minister will pay floral tributes to the statues of saint poet Sri Kanaka Dasa and also to Maharshi Valmiki at Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru.

Indian students who left Ukraine can continue education in Russia: Diplomat

For the first time since the war broke out in Ukraine in February, Russia on Thursday said that Indian students who left Ukraine can continue their education in Russia as the medical syllabus is the same in both countries.

"Indian students who left Ukraine can continue their education in Russia as the medical syllabus is almost the same (as Ukraine). They know the language of the people, as, in Ukraine, most of them speak Russian. They're most welcome in Russia," Russian Consul General Oleg Avdeev said in Chennai.

Congress releases second list of 46 candidates for Gujarat assembly polls

Congress released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat on Thursday, which consisted of 46 candidates.

The party had announced its first list on November 4, in which 43 candidates were announced. The party released its second list yesterday. The total number of candidates who have been announced rose to 89 out of the 182 candidates.

Congress 'insulted Sikh community' by inducting Tytler in panel for MCD polls, says BJP's Sirsa

The Congress has "insulted the entire Sikh community" by inducting Jagdish Tytler in the election committee for MCD polls, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on Friday.

The Congress on Thursday constituted various panels for the upcoming elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) with its pradesh election committee including the likes of state unit chief Anil Chaudhary, Ajay Maken, Sandeep Dikshit and Tytler.

While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' his party is "sheltering and promoting the murderer of Sikhs", Sirsa alleged in a press conference at the BJP's Delhi unit office.

Congress, NCP forge pre-poll alliance in Gujarat; Sharad Pawar-led party to contest three seats

The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) entered into a pre-poll alliance for the next month's Gujarat Assembly elections, as part of which the Sharad Pawar-led party will contest three of the total 182 seats in the state, the leaders of the two parties announced here on Friday.

 

In the 2017 Assembly elections, the two parties had contested the Gujarat elections separately. NCP's Kandhal Jadeja was the only MLA to win from the party. He represents the Kutiyana Assembly seat in Porbandar district.

Thane logs 34 new Covid-19 infections in a day; active tally at 261

At least 34 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, raising the tally of infections to 7,47,080, a health official said on Friday.

 

The toll remained unchanged at 11,966, while the count of recoveries has reached 735,588, he said.

Jharkhand assembly passes bill to raise reservations to 77%

A bill was passed in the Jharkhand assembly on Friday to raise the total reservation offered to different categories to 77 per cent.

 

In a special session, the assembly passed an amendment to the Jharkhand Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services Act, 2001, raising the reservations for STs, SCs, EBCs, OBCs and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in government jobs from the present 60 per cent.

SC to hear on Nov 15 pleas seeking CBI probe in Palghar lynching case

The Supreme Court on Friday said it will hear on November 15 a plea seeking CBI probe into alleged lynching of three persons in Palghar district in April 2020, after it was apprised that the Maharashtra government has consented to the investigation by the agency.

 

A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli was apprised by the PIL petitioner that now nothing remains in the plea as the state government has already agreed to transfer the probe in the case to the CBI.
