Low pressure to trigger rains in state, collectors alerted

The state government today alerted district collectors following the formation of low pressure over south Bay of Bengal near south Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka Coast, which will trigger rains in the state.

In a letter issued by the office of the Special Relief Commissioner, the low pressure would intensify into a depression moving towards north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast on December 29.

Under the influence of the cyclonic system, most parts of south, north and coastal Odisha may witness light to heavy rainfall from December 29.

In view of the rainfall, the collectors have been instructed to widely publicize the advice among the farmers for taking required steps to protect corps already harvested or under harvest against the damage due to rain.

The advisory to the farmers include immediate shifting of the paddy and other crops already cut or harvested but lying open or stacked in the field to the threshing ground to any high land which are unlikely to be inundated in the wake of rain. Similarly, the office has advised to stack the crops in the threshing ground and to keep it under cover.

The collectors are instructed to make suitable arrangements for protecting the paddy and other crops at mandis by covering it for protecting the crops from damaging. The SRC also asked Food Supply and Consumer Welfare and the Co-operation departments to make adequate preparations for the ensuing low pressure.
