Morena constable murder: Chouhan orders SIT probe

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered a special investigation team (SIT) probe into Morena incidence in which a constable Dharmendra Singh, was crushed to death allegedly by the sand mining mafia on Sunday.

The SIT is likely to be formed today.

"The SIT will submit its report within 15 days," a government spokesperson said after a high-level meeting with police officials and home ministers.

The state government will also provide an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to family of the died police man, free education to his children, the spokesperson further said a. "The government may also provide salary to his family for the rest of the period of his remaining service."

He was an ex-serviceman and is survived by his wife and two children. The constable, posted in Noorabad police station, was on patrol along with his colleagues and noticed a dumper carrying "illegally" mined sand.

"When he tried to stop it he was allegedly mauled under the vehicle. Before they could resuscitate the constable he died on spot," a police source said adding, "A case under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the driver."

Three years ago an IPS officer Narendra Kumar, was also crushed to death when he tried to stop a tractor-trolley loaded with illegally quarried stones.
