Reacting to the Supreme Court order upholding the Bombay high court judgement quashing the Maharashtra government's decision to ban dance bars in the state, Home Minister RR Patil said the government would explore, among other things, an amendment to the law.

Patil, who had taken the initiative to ban dance bars in 2005, said the government was yet to get a copy of the apex court order.

In the meantime, the state government is expected to set up a team comprising lawyers, senior legislators and officials to look into the Supreme Court order and decide the way forward.

"The government will also explore option of filing a review petition in the apex court and amend the existing law to enable government to ban dance bars in the state. The decision on filing a review petition will be taken before the conclusion of ongoing monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislature,"he added.
