The Maharashtra government today told the Bombay High Court that it will file an appeal in the Supreme Court against actor Salman Khan’s acquittal in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

The state government told the High Court that it will file a special leave petition in the apex court, The Hindu reported.

The High Court had, on December 10, acquitted the actor of all charges in the case, in which one person sleeping on the pavement had been killed and four others injured.

“Prosecution has failed to prove any charges against Salman Khan,” the court had observed. It had also said that the prosecution had failed to prove that the actor had consumed alcohol and was driving his Toyota Land Cruiser when the mishap took place.
