After surviving a suicide bid, suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh, on Saturday, made a desperate attempt to speak to the media, while being taken to a city hospital for investigations.

“Main culprits are roaming free. They are not being arrested,” he said, without naming anyone. However, he could not speak further as the police forcefully took him inside SSKM Hospital here.

“Why are you beating me in this condition?” Ghosh was heard asking the police, as he tried to speak further.  Ghosh attempted suicide by allegedly consuming about 40 pills in his prison cell. Doctors at the hospital said he was recovering and could be released from the hospital on Sunday.

Kolkata, 15 NovemberGhosh, who has been under arrest for over a year, had said in court on Monday that he would commit suicide in 72 hours, if he was not granted bail and those in power not arrested. He has been named in the first chargesheet as well, along with Saradha promoter Sudipta Sen and his key aide, Debjani Mukherjee.

Meanwhile, a purported “suicide note” was understood to have been recovered from Presidency prison, where he was lodged. A senior police officer told Business Standard, he had “heard” about such letters but was not in a position to confirm the same. The jail administration has remained silent on the issue so far.

However, this is not the first time that Ghosh had hit out at the Trinamool Congress leadership. “For truth to emerge, Mamata Banerjee should be questioned by CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) in front of me and Sudipta,” Ghosh had earlier said.

He had also named TMC leaders such as Mukul Roy, Madan Mitra and K D Singh before being arrested by the police last year.

“I once heard that there was a meeting in Delhi where it was proposed that KD Singh will help Saradha financially and all its agents will be working for KD Singh's company. In Delhi, KD Singh, Mukul Roy and Rajat Majumdar were all in Delhi,” Ghosh said in his tell-all CD telecast on local channel, days after his arrest last year.

Besides Ghosh, former west Bengal police chief Rajat Majumder was the second TMC leader to have been arrested so far in connection to the Saradha scam.
