Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has won assembly election from Maninagar seat by a huge margin of 86, 373 votes, defeating Congress rival Shweta Bhatt, wife of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. Modi got 120,470 votes as against Bhatt's 34,097.
The Chief minister is all set to score a hat trick by forming the government for the third consecutive time as his party BJP is leading on 98 seats, while had won 18 seats. After casting his vote on December 17, Modi had expressed confidence in the people of the state and said that they would elect him to form the next government.
Modi had further said, "I am happy in Gujarat. I am committed to the people of Gujarat. I believe, I am also serving the nation by serving Gujarat. Gujarat is not outside our country," when asked about his role in national politics.
The Congress seems to have gone wrong on its poll strategy as it top brass including president Arjun Modhwadia have lost the polls. Modhwadia who was contesting from Porbander lost to BJP's Babu Bokhiriya by over 7000 votes. While Congress Legislative party leader Shaktisinh Gohil and former party president Siddharth Patel were trailing during when last couple of rounds were being counted.
