Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Namma Bengaluru Foundation have moved a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit of the finances of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the Bengaluru municipal corporation.

The PIL sought Karnataka High Court's intervention to direct the CAG to audit BBMP finances from 2011 and to submit its findings to the Court. It has also appealed to direct the Karnataka government to conduct comprehensive investigations against BBMP, its commissioner and other officers of the Palike to identify the reasons for the failure to conduct timely audit of the BBMP.

"BBMP has repeatedly failed to manage and comprehensively audit its accounts, since 2010. This amounts to dereliction of their constitutional and statutory duties and a systematic breakdown of the rule of law," a statement from Chandrasekhar said.
