Commuter train services in Mumbai were hit after an empty coach of an express train between Elphinstone and Lower Parel station overturned on Tuesday morning. No injuries have been reported.
Most trains from Borivali station going towards Churchgate have been cancelled. Trains are also not halting at Matunga, Elphinstone and Mahalakshmi stations.
A 19-coach empty train was travelling from the Parel workshop to the yard when the second coach overturned onto the adjoining track, affecting services on both directions, The Indian Express quoted a Western Railway official as saying.
Overhead Equipment work (OHE) work is being done to restore the services. The Western Railway has tweeted that services are expected to be normalised in next 1-2 hours and that trains on the slow track will be operational by 11 a.m. Extra buses have been deployed by BEST between Mahim-CCG for commuters.
According to a railway official, an inquiry will be conducted to probe in to the reason of the derailment.
