Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria has received a letter threatening terror attacks in the city to "take revenge for the Gaza attacks". High alert has been sounded in the city following the receipt of the letter, which also dared the police to try and stop the attacks.
The one-page letter, addressed to Maria, was received by Mumbai Police Control Room on July 25 through post, Maria told PTI here on Sunday.
"We will take revenge for Gaza. In 1993, you got a chance. This time you won't. Stop us if you can," read the letter signed simply as "Mujahideen".
The city police, who are already keeping a close vigil during Ramzan, have stepped up security measures across the city. The state government has briefed the Union home ministry about the letter. Maharashtra's minister of state for home Satej Patil told Business Standard: "We have taken up the matter with the (Union) home ministry. We are all alert and extra precautions have been taken. The security has been beefed up.''
He added the government has taken the threat letter to Mumbai police chief very seriously and it was in constant touch with the Union home ministry and the central intelligence agencies.
