An accident involving a Rs 4.5-crore Aston Martin owned by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Ports, on the posh Peddar Road here early Sunday morning, has sent the Mumbai Police on a wild chase, with many criticising the police for its slow probe.
On Thursday, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: “If friends in Mumbai are to be believed, it seems the only people who don’t know who was driving the fancy Aston Martin are the Mumbai police.”
According to eye witnesses, as soon as the accident took place, the Reliance security team following the Aston Martin (MH-01-BK-99) took away the driver of the car in their Honda CRVs, without waiting for the cops to arrive. Next day, Reliance driver Bansilal Joshi, 55, surrendered to the police, “confessing” to his crime.
A Reliance official said the driver had surrendered to the police. No one was injured in the crash. Media reports have quoted witnesses as saying an Ambani family member was in the car. They have given a detailed description of the driver to the police. Witnesses have alleged the police is going slow in the case.
Though the police has taken fingerprints and DNA evidence from the car, media pictures and video footage shot by Zee TV soon after the accident show many people touching the inside of the car. When contacted, the Mumbai Police said it was collecting evidence from CCTV footage.
