The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has issued a closure order against one of the manufacturing units owned by US generics drug maker Mylan Inc for violating effluent treatment norms.
An official in the PCB confirmed the development saying they had issued the closure orders on Wednesday against Unit 5 of Mylan, located at the Jeedimetla industrial area here. “Power supply was cut to the unit today as the closure orders were executed,” the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Business Standard.
PCB member secretary Sanjay Kumar did not respond to the phone calls while a Mylan's local spokesperson said they would issue a statement in this regard soon.
The PCB officials reportedly conducted a raid on the unit when it was allegedly releasing the effluents directly into a nearby drain instead of getting these chemical wastes treated at an effluent treatment facility located elsewhere, a condition based on which it was given permission to undertake operations, according to unconfirmed reports.
