Mysore tourist passport released

To facilitate tourists a hassle-free entry to tourist spots like the palace, zoological gardens and other interesting spots in Mysore, the Mysore Tourist Passport was launched today.

The passport offers multiple entry on a single ticket. This helps tourists avoid the ordeal of buying tickets at every tourist spot.

District in-charge minister V Sreenivasa Prasad launched the passport that come in three colours depending on the packages at the zoo premises. The passports will be sold from September 15 to October 15, and will be made available online too. Prasad said, new Governor of Karnataka Vaijubhai Vala and his wife, and wife of late scion of Mysore royal family Pramoda Devi Wadiyar would be officially invited to the state-sponsored celebrations.

Both for the locals and the visitors, particularly during their morning and evening march from the palace premises where they are stationed, on the route to Banni Mantap via the Sayyaji Road. The rehearsal for them has become a regular feature and Arjuna, the howdah carrier, is being made to carry sand bags weighing around 600 kgs to make him fit for carrying the 700-kg golden howdah on the Vijaya Dasami day. The second batch will join them in the next few days.

Meanwhile, the District administration is busily engaged in making preparations for the Dasara programmes. The official sub-committees are chalking out varied programmes.

Funds have been allocated for making arrangements for various programmes. Allocations include Rs 31.95 lakh for 'Yuva Dasara' and Yuva Sambhrama', youth-related cultural programmes to be organised at the Maharaja's College Grounds and the Manasa Gangotri Open Air Theatre, Rs 65.75 lakh for cultural programmes in front of the Palace, Rs 31.90 lakh for torchlight parade at Bannimantap Grounds, and Rs 34.60 lakh for Dasara inauguration atop Chamundi Hills, Dasara sports, 'Aahara Mela', Women and Children Dasara and Rytha Dasara.

For arrangements of light, sound and generators, Rs 45.62 lakh for Yuva Sambhrama, Rs 21.20 lakh for cultural programmes at palace premises, Rs 24.70 lakh for torch-light parade, Dasara sports, wrestling, CAVA Mela, Air Show, Yoga Dasara, adventure sports and Vijaya Dasami procession route are provided. Rs 10.24 lakh tender has been invited for arrangements at Kala Mandira, Town Hall, Dufferin Clock Tower, Kuppanna Park, Rangoli competition, Aahara Mela and Yuva Dasara, Rytha Dasara, Janapadothsava and Dasara inauguration on top of Chamundi Hills. Tender of Rs 21.75 lakh has also been invited for improvement of Dasara procession route.

Tenders are also invited for laser show, CCTV and survey camera installations, arrangements for artists, and printing of tickets and passes. Work orders will be given after opening the tenders on September 16.
