Neuberg Diagnostics has claimed that it has received the Government's approval for administering Covid-19 vaccine to its staff, and is currently waiting for approval to administer vaccines to identified priority groups in Tamil Nadu. These groups include those above the age of 60 years and those above 45 years with co-morbidities. The vaccines will be administered at Neuberg Ehrlich Laboratory in Chennai. The company claims the diagnostics chain becomes first private lab to administer vaccines
Ahead of the vaccination, Neuberg has technically trained its staff who can proficiently inoculate the population with utmost compliance. As per the official guidelines, the lab has created the dedicated sections for registration &verification, vaccination and observation, said the company.
Neuberg has designated four vaccination officers — Vaccination Officer 1 to check registration, Vaccination Officer 2 to verify ID proof, and Vaccination officers 3 and 4 to administer the vaccine and monitor the recipients for 30 minutes for any side effects. Currently, only government officials have access to the CoWIN app site to register potential vaccinees. However once this application is open to the public, anyone will be able to register themselves for vaccination.
Dr. GSK Velu, Chairman and MD, Neuberg Diagnostics said, “We have successfully vaccinated all our employees recently. Initially, there was reluctance, however we conducted educative sessions for them and clarified all misinformation related to vaccines which was the primary reason for their hesitancy. They responded well to our awareness initiative.”
Regarding the approval, Dr. Velu said “while the government continues to do a remarkable job in conducting vaccination drives across country, private participation will compliment it in speeding up the process. It is very crucial that we vaccinate people soon to build the immunity against the infection.”
Dr. Saranya Narayan, Chief Microbiologist, Neuberg Diagnostics said, “Mass vaccination is the only way out if we want to protect ourselves from the second wave. Involving private players will increase the coverage and ensure that the general public have quick access to vaccination, especially those in the high-risk category.”
