Savita Khant, the Congress candidate who won from Morva Hadaf Assembly seat in Panchmahal district on Thursday, died after suffering brain haemorrhage at a private hospital in Vadodara on Friday.
Khant, 52, had fell down from a chair while she was at the counting center yesterday. She was immediately rushed to a hospital in Godhra and later shifted to a private hospital in Vadodara.
She passed away today, party workers said. Khant, a resident of Viramiya village, had defeated BJP's Bijalbhai Damor by a margin of 11,289 votes in the newly-formed constituency. Senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil condoled her death and said that she was an efficient worker of the party.
With Khant's death, Congress's strength in the 182-member Assembly has been reduced to 60. After yesterdays assembly poll results BJP had won 115 seats, Congress 61 and others 6.
