Though Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, hailing from Chandigarh, denied any knowledge about the matter, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested his nephew Vijay Singla yesterday from a Chandigarh shopping mall when he went to pick up Rs 90 lakh bribe.
Mahesh Kumar, member, Railway Board, the statutory body that runs the Indian Railways, was arrested from Mumbai in the same case. Kumar was appointed member only on Thursday.
The railway minister who assumed charge last December after Trinamool Congress stormed out of the UPA government, said, "I have always observed highest standards of probity in public life and look forward to an expeditious investigation by CBI in the matter.” Singhla is his sister's son.
"I had no knowledge or clue about the matter at all," said Bansal.

In a statement issued today, Bansal denied any "business relationship between his family and that of Singla's".
