Political parties in Maharashtra were unanimous in their view that on Thursday's Supreme Court verdict in the 1993 Mumbai blasts should be honoured by all. The ruling Congress party said the five-year sentence to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt under the Arms Act and the electoral prospects of Dutt's sister and party Member of Parliament Priya Dutt were different issues.
"I don't want to speak. I don't know what to say," said a visibly upset Priya Dutt.
Sachin Sawant, spokesman, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, told Business Standard, "The Supreme Court has delivered its judgment and everybody will have to accept it." He added it wasn't proper to bring any political angle to it.
Sudhir Mungantiwar, president, Maharashtra unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party said the verdict proved nobody was above the law. "The apex court order shows the law has taken its due course. However, the time taken for deciding such a crucial case needs to be shortened," he said.
