While Chhattisgarh waits for December 8 when the state election results will be out, the mercury level is not showing any sign of dip.

One should not get confused. The climatic change is because of cyclone Helen and Leher, and not the political buzz that the state has been witnessing for last one month. The temperature in the state is well above the normal winter season.

The first week of December otherwise brings cold wave in many parts of Chhattisgarh. But this year, people are yet to take out their woolen cloths. For the time being, they have got respite from the chill winter.

The weather experts feel that the cyclone Helen and Leher that hit last month has made the difference. “There is no sign of cold wave hitting Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh,” one of the experts M Gopal Rao said. The possible cloudy weather later in the week is likely to make the temperature further warmer, he predicted.

The experts said there was abundant moisture in the upper air due to the cyclone. It had been blocking winds from blowing into the region. This had resulted in mercury going up slightly in many parts of Chhattisgarh.

In Raipur, the maximum temperature was recorded at 29.3 degree celsius that was reported to be two degree higher than the normal. The night was also comparatively warmer as the mercury recorded a temperature of 16.6 degree celsius that was up by four degree than the normal.

The experts felt there was no sign of mercury dipping till the election results were out on Sunday. While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is claiming a hat-trick, Congress is confident to return to power after 10 years in Chhattisgarh.
