Nod for 3 ropeway projects in Himachal

The ropeways are aimed at easing traffic congestion

The government on Friday announced two ropeway projects - one in Shimla and two in Dharamsala - in the public-private-partnership (PPP) mode.

The Shimla ropeway will connect the tourist information centre on the bypass road and Mall Road.

In Dharamsala, one ropeway will connect the Chamunda temple and Adi Himani Chamunda. Another will connect Dharamsala and Mcleodgunj, the seat of the Dalai Lama, uphill.

A committee has been formed to improve the annual concession fee of the proposed Palchan-Ropan ropeway near Manali. The Shimla and Dharamsala-Mcleodgunj ropeways have been proposed for over 20 years.

The ropeways are aimed at easing traffic congestion.

The government also approved canceling small hydel electric projects in the private sector. The projects are Ghagas, Anni-IV, Najan, Suhi, Chachul, Joiner Top-I and Sainj Bhagaru. It also approved expansion of the JP Himachal cement plant at Baga in Solan.
