The Mysuru district administration on Tuesday said 60,653 online applicants of ration cards in the district have not yet submitted their Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers for proof.
The administration has warned all such applicants that failure to submit their EPIC numbers before the month-end will lead to the applications getting rejected or being considered ‘suspicious’. The authorities reminded that March 31 is the deadline for submission of EPIC numbers.
The Centre has made EPIC numbers mandatory for both renewal and issuance of new ration cards in order to eliminate bogus or duplication and bring about transparency in distribution of ration cards. The Department of Food and Civil Supplies had asked applicants to submit EPIC numbers of all family members who are above 21 years of age.
Card holders can provide EPIC card numbers from their mobiles to the department by way of SMS.
The deputy commissioner said SMSes had already been sent to applicants whose ration cards were ready to be handed over. Those applicants should contact the concerned taluk office, gram panchayat or the ward offices in Mysuru city and obtain their cards by giving their thumb impressions. However, she cautioned that ration cards of those who fail to collect these would be cancelled.
She said a few applicants had obtained ration cards by providing wrong details. Such applicants cannot hold either ‘Antyodaya’ or below poverty line (BPL) ration cards. The authorities requested all such cardholders to return their cards to the department before April 30. If, after April 30, wrongly obtained cards are found, the department would take stern action against such cardholders, Shikha warned.
