Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday opened the newly-built 4-lane road overbridge at Kaloor, (north overbridge) in Kochi city for public traffic. The overbridge was built as part of the preparatory works of Kochi metro rail to ease traffic congestion during the construction of the metro rail.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had built the bridge in 24 months with a total cost of Rs 50 crore. Phase I of the ROB was completed in January this year and opened for traffic. Now, the bridge has been widened to enable 4 lane traffic as part of the second phase.
Meanwhile, the DMRC has decided to cancel the contract with Era - Ranken, a joint venture of Era Infra Engineering Limited and Ranken, a Beijing-based railway construction group, to build the fourth reach of the metro rail, said E Sreedharan, chief mentor of DMRC.
