It may come as a surprise for most Indians but people in Pakistan and Bangladesh are much happier than them, says at least a poll by Gallup, a global performance-management company.
Out of 1,000 adults interviewed in 143 countries each, 61% people in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Iran responded positive to questions such as whether they smiled or laughed a lot the previous day or if they were treated with respect all day. They were also asked if they learnt something interesting and they felt like having rested enough.
India and Nepal shared the standing with 59% people responding in affirmation to these questions.

The survey found 86% respondents each from Paraguay and Venezuela have received positive emotions and have topped the chart. Whereas, interviewees of Syria, which has so far lost around 100,000 people to civil war, and strife-torn Iraq were marked least happy on the Positive Experience Index.
Singapore, which was marked lowest on the index in 2011, was a surprised gainer in 2012. It jumped from 46% in 2011 to 70% in 2012. The survey however doesn’t list the reasons behind people’s sentiments.
