Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's social security schemes - Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyothi Beema Yojana (PMJJBY) near launch, enrollments in Gujarat have also crossed 350,000.
As per the data revealed by Dena Bank, the lead bank for State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) in Gujarat, while enrollments have been around 282,000 for PMSBY, the same has been over 72,500 since May 1, 2015.
While PMSBY offers accident insurance for an annual premium of mere Rs 12, PMJJBY offers full life insurance cover for an annual premium of Rs 330. The schemes provides insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh each for life insurance and for accidental death, while Rs 2 lakh cover is given for complete disability due to accident and Rs 1 lakh for partial disability.
"There is an overwhelming response to both the schemes in Gujarat. The target for enrollments into social security schemes is to cover 20 per cent of accounts in Gujarat," said Kailash Chandra Chhipa, GM & SLBC convenor Dena Bank - Gujarat.
Talking about enrollments in Jan Dhan Yojana, Chhipa said that so far 6 million accounts have been opened under the scheme in Gujarat.
Moreover, as per the available data on the daily status of the enrollment of the two schemes, private sector banks have shown negligible enrollments as compared to their public sector peers. According to the data, all private sector banks had only 146 enrollments till May 6 under PMSBY, as against 28,069 by RRBs and 2,54,000 by PSU banks.
Meanwhile, private sector banks are yet to begin enrollments for for PMJJBY, even as RRBs have about 3,000 enrollments and PSU banks have a total of over 69,400 enrollments.

Apparently, any body having a bank account in public or private or rural banks with CBS facility can enroll for the social security schemes.
