Prohibition of alcohol consumption in Bihar has found its echo in the festivities ensuing Durga Puja as many pandals across the state have chosen to depict ill effects of alcohol in order to generate public awareness against liquor consumption.
A Puja pandal at Purnea has a message written on the top of its entrance gate in favour of prohibition that reads, "Sharab bandi se hogi samaj ki khushali (prohibition will usher the state into happiness)."
Moreover, the pandal has two big cut-outs of popular liquor brand bottles at one side with slogans in favour of prohibition.
"Aao Milkar Sapath Le, Nasha Mukt hum Samaj Banaye (let us take a pledge to make a liquor-free society)," reads one slogan.
Strong words against liquor consumption were displayed in some pandals at the state capital, Patna.
Another pandal in Machua Toli in Patna had several cut-outs depicting a contrast in domestic conditions before and after prohibition.
Another pandal at Govind Mitra Road depicts the sorry condition of a family where an inebriated husband is lying on the floor, while a shattered wife and her little daughter stand beside him.
Organisers of the festival said the powerful depictions and slogans were meant to spread awareness about the merits of prohibition amid masses.
