Announcing schedule of the fifth edition of World Kabaddi Cup to be held in Punjab, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday said the state government was working with other kabbadi-playing nations namely Canada and the UK, to devise modalities to include kabbadi in the Commonwealth Games and in Asian Games and subsequently in the Olympics.
"I had a word with Canadian sports minister and British Parliamentarians, regarding the inclusion of kabbadi in the Commonwealth Games, which they agreed. Taking this step forward, I would soon meet Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal to take up this matter with concerned Commonwealth and Olympics Games committees," Badal informed mediapersons in Chandigarh.
The deputy chief minister said the initiative of Punjab government to organise World Kabbadi Cup had provided international exposure to this traditional game of Punjab.
"In fact kabbadi leagues are attracting more spectators than any other sport leagues organised in the country," he added.
