Railway Protection Force (RPF) has rescued more than 1,200 children from rail premises across the country during July this year.

A total of 1,261 children, including 18 trafficked, were rescued by RPF from stations and trains during the 'Operation Muskaan-II' campaign launched by the Union Home Ministry from July 1 to July 31, said a release.

Railway ministry in collaboration with Ministry of Women and Child Development and National Commission of Protection of Child Rights had issued Standing Operating Procedure (SOP) on March 5 last year for the better care and protection of the child in contact with the Railways.

The SOP at present is being implemented at 15 railway stations in addition to 20 stations where already Child Help Desks have been established, the release added.
