Apollo Tyres Ltd today said production operations at its plant located at Oragadam, near Chennai have been disrupted due to flooding at the factory premises caused by heavy rains.

"The production was disrupted in three shifts till December 2, 2015. The production loss due to this natural calamity is 450 MT (approximately)," Apollo Tyres said in a BSE filing.

The natural calamity is adequately covered under the insurance policy of the company, it added.

In August the company had announced plans to ramp up the Chennai plant involving capital expenditure of Rs 1,200 crore.

The plant manufactures truck and bus radial tyre, and with the expansion plans its capacity would increase from 8,900 tyres per day to 12,000 tyres per day.

Heavy rains in Chennai disrupted operations of major IT and automobile firms. Yesterday, companies including Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Hyundai, Ford and Renault temporarily closed offices and manufacturing plants in and around the flood-ravaged city.
