Rakesh Mohan, former executive director for India to the IMF and earlier deputy governor of the Reserve Bank, will join Brookings India on January 1 as Distinguished Fellow.
Mohan will oversee the research agenda and support the preparation of policy briefs and discussion events.
Mohan's appointment comes after Subir Gokarn succeeded him at the IMF and left Brookings India as director of research.
An eminent economist, Mohan has also been the chairman of the national transport development policy committee and of the high level committee on financing of infrastructure. He was professor at the school of management and senior fellow at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at Yale University.
