Notwithstanding the crackdown on NGOs, a total of Rs 1,452 crore was received by various voluntary organisations during 2014-15, Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said as on October 31 this year, 33,216 associations/NGOs were registered under Foreign Contribution Regulations Act.

In 2012-13, the NGOs received Rs 1,152 crore as foreign funding, and in 2013-14 received Rs 1,309 crore. The corresponding figure in 2014-15 was Rs 1,452 crore.

In 2015, the Union Home Ministry cancelled the FCRA registration of 10,000 NGOs because they did not file their annual returns for three years in a row.

The Modi government has so far cancelled registration of more than 22,000 NGOs for various alleged lapses.

Replying to another question, the government told the House that no details are available about the composition and date of visit of a US Department of Justice team, which is coming to India in connection with recent cyber fraud cases that have come to light.

"As per a report received from DOJ, 20 individuals were arrested in USA on October 27, 2016, while 32 individuals and 5 call centres in India have been identified for investigation on their alleged involvement in the cyber fraud crime," Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said.
