Rs 100 cr electricity bill due in Raigarh district

CM Raman Singh says the industries located in the district are due to pay Rs 44 cr to the state-run power company

The industrial district of Raigarh in Chhattisgarh is due to pay Rs 100 crore electricity bills to the state-own power distribution company.

Of the due amount, the industries located in the district are due to pay Rs 44 crore to the power company, chief minister Raman Singh informed in the state legislative assembly Monday. He was replying to a question raised by Umesh Patel of Congress.

Singh, who holds the additional charge of energy department, said that as on December 2013, the power company was due to collect Rs 39.79 crore from the private power consumers in the district. The agriculture pump users were also supposed to pay Rs 7 crore as power tariff.

Interestingly, the government departments of the state government as well as government of India are also in the list of power consumers due to pay the bill to the state power company.

The chief minister informed that 25 state government departments had not cleared the electricity bills to the tune of Rs 1.79 crore. The health department figures to in the list with a sum of Rs 56 lakh due on it.

The state power company is due to recover Rs 5.63 lakh from the railway: Rs 80, 000 from the income tax and Rs 35,000 from the telecommunication department.
