The Enforcement Directorate was hopeful that the investigation into the Saradha ponzi scam would be completed within a reasonable period of time, as the wife of a former Congress MP was questioned.
"The Saradha probe involves several issues and scanning of plethora of documents. But we hope that the investigation will be completed within a reasonable time," a senior official of the directorate told PTI.
The officer said that there were four lakh primary entries and 20 lakh bank transactions which would have to be scrutinised and investigated. Meanwhile, the directorate interrogated Manoranjana, ex wife of Matang Singh, a former Congress MP during the day. "Yes, we have interrogated the ex wife of Matang Singh," he said.
Probing a scam of this magnitude takes a lot of time," the official said. Earlier, the directorate had questioned Trinamool Congress MP candidate from Balurghat constituency Arpita Ghosh in the scam.
The directorate had also taken custody of Sudipto Sen's son Subhojit, while his second wife Piyali Sen was released on bail. Besides ED, the Justice Shyamal Sen Commission, appointed by the West Bengal government, was also running a concurrent probe.
