Security at airports in India will be stepped up following the terror attack at Karachi airport on Sunday night which killed 24 persons including airport staff and ten terrorists.
"Surveillance at airports is being strengthened with Quick Response Team deployment. Detailed preventive measures are being prepared and will be communicated to all airports. Commissioner of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has held discussion with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials,'' said a senior civil aviation ministry official.
Major airports already have check posts closer to the terminal buildings and X-ray machines at departure gates.
"We have already been on high alert and carrying out random checking of passengers inside the terminal. We are yet to receive fresh instructions from government,'' said a CISF official at Mumbai airport.
