India's push for getting the shooting pair events reinstated in the Commonwealth Games has succeeded with the Commonwealth Shooting Federation's General Assembly agreeing to have them back for the next edition in Australia.
Besides, Baljit Singh Sethi, the National Rifles Association Advisor, was elected unopposed as Vice-President of the CSF at the General Assembly meeting here yesterday.
"In a major decision, the General Assembly of Commonwealth Shooting Federation has unanimously approved the proposal of India to reinstate Pair Events in the Commonwealth Games," the NRAI said in a statement.
"This has resulted in a great loss to India and brought down the number of medals in Commonwealth Games. In the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Shooting team won 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze in pair events," the NRAI stated.
The General Assembly also decided to bring back two pistol events -- Centre Fire Pistol and Standard Pistol. With this, the number of pistol matches for men would be five instead of three.
"These decisions will be implemented from the next chapter of Commonwealth Games.
