Apparently in a bid to bring Trinamool Congress, a key United Progressive Alliance’s (UPA) ally, on board on the Presidential poll issue, Congress leader and union minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday met the party chief Mamata Banerjee here.

“I am always happy to talk to her. This time also I am happy,” Sibal told reporters after his meeting with the West Bengal Chief Minister at the state secretariat.

He, however, evaded questions on whether the Presidential elections were discussed in the meeting which took place for over half-an-hour.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of

West Bengal, Shakeel Ahmed, had yesterday renewed the appeal to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to support the candidature of UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee in the Presidential poll.

Banerjee had earlier said a final decision on TMC’s stand on the Presidential elections would be taken three days before the polling date on July 19.
