SmartCity Kochi has received building permit for the construction of the first building from the Single Window Clearance Board, said P H Kurian, principal IT secretary and chairman of the clearance board.
Abdullatif AlMulla, CEO of SmartCity Dubai and chief business development officer of Dubai Holding, which is the main promoter of SmartCity Kochi, said with the grant of building permit, all major regulatory requirements for the first building had been obtained. The building will be ready for fit out by the end of next year.
Baju George, managing director, SmartCity Kochi, said the company had also received formal communication from the Environment Clearance Board, intimating the approval, subject to the filing of an affidavit, which the company would be doing this week. Land development activities had already started at its first building's construction site in Edachira, Kakkanad. As part of the green construction, more than 130 trees are also being relocated in the site.
The first IT building is expected to be ready in 18-22 months at a cost of Rs 170-180 crore. Phase I also includes a bridge across the river Kadamprayar.
