Staff at a toll booth in Kanpur Rural district have accused a group of 13 persons, allegedly local Samajwadi Party workers, of having assaulted them when asked to pay toll charges.
Superintendent of Police Kripashankar Singh said that a case has been registered against Suresh Yadav, alias Fauji, and 12 unidentified persons in connection with the incident which took place yesterday at Barajor.
Singh, however, added that no arrests have been made so far in the case.
When asked whether SP workers had been involved in the incident, Singh said that those claims by the complainants cannot be immediately confirmed.
The incident took place on a day when SP leaders and their supporters allegedly assaulted staffers at two toll plazas in Uttar Pradesh, at Auraiya and Faizabad, despite party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's warning to party workers that hooliganism would not be tolerated.
