The Gujarat government is mulling to set up of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) at the state's largest education hub spread over 1000 acres of land at Chokari village for development of various civic amenities at the site.
As per the state government's proposal, the Chokari village backyard will host a central university, a teacher's university, a sports university and IIIT, to be known as a "special education-cum-sports zone".
Chokari has a population of around 14,000 including farmers. They depend on cotton and vegetable farming.
Gujarat Finance minister Saurabh Patel along with Collector Rao visited this village a forthnight ago.
After this visit, the state government has decided to go ahead with the setting up of SPV for developing required amenities including water through pipe line, drainage, roads, etc in the village, Rao said.
The Vadodara district administration has already earmarked over 1,000 acre of government land for this education hub which is situated adjoining Mahisagar river alongside the village, he said.
A number of factories producing chemicals including pharmaceutical majors such as Sterling Biotech, Sun Pharma and Alembic Pharma are located in and around Chokari.

The setting up of a SPV authority aims at development of civic and other amenities in Chokari village of Padra taluka in Vadodara, said District Collector Vinod Rao. The Gujarat government had already included this proposal in its budget for year 2014-15 which was passed and adopted by the State Assembly in July 2014, he said.
