SSC announces Junior Engineer recruitment drive

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has issued recruitment notification for the post of Junior Engineers (JE). The commission will conduct an open competitive examination to shortlist candidates for the Group B; non-gazetted posts in various government organisations. JE posts are for civil, mechanical, electrical, and quantity surveying and contract vacancies. The scale of pay is Rs. 9300 to Rs. 34800 plus grade pay Rs. 4200 (pre-revised).

The SSC JE 2016-2017 exam scheduled to be held From December 3, 2016 to December 5, 2016.

Eligibility criteria

Interested candidates should have degree or diploma in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering discipline from a recognized University or Institute as on August 1, 2016.

For the vacancies, the commission will accept date of birth as recorded in the matriculation or secondary examination certificate or an equivalent certificate to determine the age. Candidates are advised to opt only for such posts for which they have the qualification and are within the prescribed age limits.

Candidates have to apply online at ssconline.nic.in. The examination fee of Rs. 100 can be paid through SBI challan, net banking and any credit or debit card. Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, Physically handicapped and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from paying fee, as per rules / instructions of Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India.

Selection process

Candidates will be shortlisted and recommended for appointment by the Commission on the basis of their total marks in examination both paper I and II,
and preference for the posts. 

The questions for the examination will drafted based on engineering subjects, and will be approximately of the level of diploma in Engineering (civil / electrical / mechanical) from a recognized Institute, Board or University recognized by All India Board of Technical Education.

Paper-I will consist of objective-type multiple choice questions only. Candidates who are shortlisted on the basis of performance in Paper –I will be called for Paper-II (conventional type). There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I.

In Paper-I and Paper-II for general engineering, the candidate will be required to attempt only the part as per option given in the application form. Therefore, candidates appearing for the post of JE (Civil), JE (Quantity Surveying & Contract) should attempt Part A (Civil & Structural) of Paper-I and Paper-II and the candidates appearing for the post of JE (Electrical) should attempt Part-B (Electrical) and the candidates appearing for the post of JE (Mechanical) should attempt part C (Mechanical) of Paper-I and Paper-II failing which his/her answer sheet (Paper-II) will not be evaluated.

For Paper – I, entry to the examination venue will not be allowed after 9:30 AM in the morning shift and after 1:30 PM in the afternoon shift.
