Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy is planning to approach the Supreme Court against Attorney General (AG) Mukul Rohatgi’s opinion that the Information and Broadcasting Ministry should grant security clearance to Sun TV’s 33 television channels.
The promoters group — Kalanithi Maran and his wife holds 75 per cent in the company, whose market capitalisation was Rs 13,144.69 crore as on June 19.
Home ministry sources said the AG has supported granting of security clearances to Sun TV and held the view that the corruption cases should not be a ground to deny security clearance. Investigating agencies can continue probing cases which are essentially corruption related and not impinge on security issues, he reportedly opined.
Reacting to AG’s opinion, Swamy tweeted it's “shocking that after home minister declined to give security clearance to Sun TV, the AG gave a contrary opinion to I&B. Time for me to go to SC.”
