The Supreme Court on Wednesday restored the government in Arunachal Pradesh and quashed all the orders given out by the state’s governor since December 15, 2015.

“SC quashed all notifications of December 9 issued by Arunachal Governor, restored status quo ante as on December 15, 2015,” said Advocate Vivek Tankha.

The apex court was hearing a petition on dealing with discretionary powers of the Governor to summon or advance Assembly sessions in the state. Governor JP Rajkhowa had earlier advanced the Winter Session of the Assembly without consulting the then chief minister, Nabam Tuki. Rebel Congress lawmakers sought to impeach the Speaker at a makeshift venue.

Reacting to the development, Tuki, told news agency ANI, “We have got justice from SC. Court has today saved this country and its constitution. It is a historic & remarkable judgement, which was expected by the people of the country.”
