The survey work for the proposed coastal road from Goplapur in Odisha to Digha in West Bengal, recently declared a National Highway, has been initiated by the Centre.
"The Union government has already engaged a consultant to undertake the survey for this 500 kilometre stretch. We have shared with the Centre the tentative locations through which the proposed road will run," said Nalinikant Pradhan, secretary, works department.
Recently, Union minister for road transport, highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari had said that the Center would spend Rs 5,000 crore on the construction of this 500-km long road. The detailed project report (DPR) for the new National Highway from Gopalpur to Digha would be prepared before coming December, the minister had announced.
