Congress lawmakers and ministers from the Semandhra region of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday met Union Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily here today to discuss the contentious division of the state, with the creation of Telangana.
Congress lawmaker Anantha Venkatarami Reddy said developments following the announcement of the creation of the new state was also discussed at the meeting.
"Lawmakers from Seemandhra region met Veerappa Moily who is one of the members of the Antony Committee. Yesterday there was a discussion in the parliament; so, we discussed the proceedings of the meeting and also discussed the condition of the state. People are not going to work due to continuous agitations in the province," Reddy said.
Earlier, on August 1, legislators from Andhra Pradesh had submitted their resignations as a mark of protest over the Congress' decision to bifurcate the state.
The Congress Working Committee's decision to grant separate statehood to Telangana, on July 30, has invited severe criticism against the ruling party, as the timing of the announcement comes crucially close to the 2014 general elections.
