Ten passengers were killed on Friday and more than 28 injured, some of them critically, when the Bangalore-Ernakulam Inter City Express derailed near Anekal, about 45 kms away here.
The railway officials said about nine coaches have been derailed in the mishap that occurred between Anekal-Hosur on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border at around 7.40 AM.
The injured trapped in derailed bogies were being removed and rushed to hospitals in Bengaluru and nearby Hosur, sources said.
Help desks have been set up at Bangalore City Railway Station and at the accident site.
Relief and rescue operations are on in full swing with medical teams from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on the spot.
Police and railway officials said efforts were being made to reach those trapped inside the derailed bogies.
The injured have been rushed to hospitals in nearby Hosur and Bengaluru, they said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the accident.

The Bangalore City - Ernakulam Intercity Express had left Bengaluru at 0615 hrs and derailed at 0735 hrs between Anekal Road and Hosur on Bangalore City-Salem Section, Railways said.
