The movement against the three agriculture reforms gripped the national capital by November 26 when farmers reached Delhi borders all prepared for a long haul. They put up tents on the Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur borders and held free-for-all feasts every day.

Though the agitation remained largely peaceful, it gained infamy on January 26 when farmers entered the city on tractors and used them like tanks, toppling barricades and forcing police personnel to run helter-skelter.

A 21-year-old climbing the flag pole and hoisting Nishan Sahib at Red Fort became the defining image of the protest.

And when the mood appeared to be turning against the stir and a large police deployment near the protest site at the Ghazipur border gave an impression of a forceful eviction on January 28, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait sobbed on national television and told reporters that he would rather commit suicide than leave and end the protest against the farm laws.

His tears became a turning point and the crowd returned to Ghazipur and reinvigorated farmers.
