The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s preliminary enquiry (PE) in the MCX-SX license grant case has got converted into a first information report against Jignesh Shah, the founder of the exchange. Although CBI has dropped proceedings against former Sebi chief C B Bhave and whole-time member K M Abraham, the FIR names 1 former and 3 current Sebi officials. Gupta, at present, is the founder and managing director of Stakeholders Empowerment Services (SES), leading proxy advisory. SES, led by Gupta, has been an active voice in highlighting governance breaches at various listed companies. An IIT graduate, Gupta was part of Sebi's market regulation department, overseeing functioning of market infrastructure institutes such as stock exchanges and depositories. In his first stint at Sebi in 1994, Gupta worked as the chief of primary and secondary market division. The former Sebi ED has also been member secretary of a committee headed by Bimal Jalan to review market infrastructure institutions.

Dangeti, who has a master's degree in securities law, has capital market experience of 15 years where he has worked as an investment banker and has been involved in formulating market framework.

Murali Dhar Rao is one of seven executive directors at the Sebi. He currently handles portfolios including the market regulation department (MRD), which looks at the administration of stock exchanges as well as the division for risk management and new products. He also looks at the department of economic and policy analysis (DEPA), which among other things, looks at issues like systematic stability. A double post-graduate, he is described as a good boss to work under. He has a master's degree in commerce as well as an MBA (Master in Business Administration) in Finance. He has been working at Sebi for over 20 years, during which he has handled a variety of matters including those related to issue management, corporate restructuring and policy matters relating to secondary market, administration and inspection of stock exchanges and depositories.
